«Students’ collection of papers 2016 Vol.1»

This collection contains papers based on students’ research on the social, political, linguistic aspects of European identity, as well as the contemporary challenges which the European Union faces in terms of identity.
The problems of mechanisms to foster European identity and to disseminate European values, the problems of immigration and Euroscepticism are discussed. The collection includes articles based om the reports presented during the First Student Conference "European Identity through the Prism of European Union Policy" organised by the department of French philology in April 2016 as part of the Erasmus + Jean Monet project "European Identity through the Prism of the European Union Policy" (564786-EPP- 1-2015-1-EN-EPPJMO-MODULE (Identity européenne à travers la politique de l’Union Européenne (politique linguistique, d’affaires, d’immigration - PolidEU).
The materials of the compilation were prepared with the financial support of the European Union.

The collection includes articles based on the results of the first scientific and practical seminar " Taking into account students’ identity during foreign language lessons", held from 26 May to 24 June 2016 in Voronezh in the framework of the Erasmus + Jean Monnet project "European identity through prism of the policy of the European Union "(564786-EPP-1 -2015-1-EN-EPPJMO-MODULE Identité européenne à travers la politique de l’Union Européenne (politique linguistique, d’affaires, d’immigration - PolidEU)).
The research papers were prepared by the teachers of the gymnasium with in-depth study of the French language named after I. S. Nikitin. The materials of the collection have been prepared with the financial support of the European Union.

Alexeeva E. Jean Monnet Project as a factor of fostering students professional competencies

The authors of the paper analyze the outcomes of the Jean Monnet project “European identity through the EU policy - PolidEU” at the end of the first academic year of its implementation. The relevance of the activities planned under the project is considered through the prism of competences of Federal State Educational Standard in the field of linguistics. The Jean Monnet PolidEU project has proven effective in the formation of a range of professional competences of future specialists in foreign languages: communicative competence, competence in information research and information processing, ICT competence, competence in the field of scientific research, professional competence in foreign language teaching.

The article focuses on the experience gained during implementation of the project “European identity through the European Union policy – PolidEU” in introducing competence-oriented approach in teaching students whose major – linguistics - is not directly connected with learning the EU by means of introducing in-depth studies of aspects of EU functioning and issues concerning European identity into curricula. The modules implemented in the framework of the project and the types of competencies they target are discussed.

The article analyses the experience of the French philology department of the Voronezh State University in the implementation of the Erasmus + project (Jean Monnet activities) «European identity through the prism of the policy of the European Union». Activities within the framework of the project include a number of educational and extracurricular activities (student scientifi c conferences, simulation games) that play an important role in fostering professional competencies in accordance with Federal Educational State Standard 3+ in the field of Linguistics (bachelor’s level). The authors conclude that the implementation of such projects enhances students’ professional competencies, competitiveness and recognition of the university in international educational and becomes an important factor in HEI strategic development.

The authors of the article are describing the new forms of cooperation between the department of French philology of the Voronezh State University and the secondary schools of Voronezh and the Voronezh region introduced during the implementation of the Erasmus+ project « European identity through the prism of the European Union policy» (564786-EPP-1-2015-1-RU-EPPJMO-MODULE). A seminar for teachers of the French language and a contest of methodological skill allowed to develop professional competencies and motivation for professional self-improvement both among French language teachers and students. Such work makes a significant contribution to the integration of resources at various levels of education. It increases the efficiency of preparing future students with a high-quality knowledge, and also contributes to the employment of graduates of universities.
