  • In 2015, the project 564786-EPP-1-2015-1-RU-EPPJMO-MODULE «European identity in the mirror of the European Union’s policy» (European identity via the policy of the European Union (politique linguistique, d’affaires, d’immigration) - PolidEU), prepared at the French philology department, received funding of the European Union in the framework of Erasmus + programme (Action Jean Monnet). The project’s implementation period is 2015-2018.

The strategic objectives of the project are:

  • ■ promoting the quality of teaching and research on topics related to EU studies by promoting best practices of teaching and learning on European integration and the functioning of the European Union;
  • ■ fostering of profound knowledge on topics related to the European Union, in order to increase the young professionals’ competitiveness in the academic and professional field and enhance their participation in the development of the civil society;
  • ■ developing the dialogue between the scientific community and the authorities;
  • ■ promoting the innovative teaching methods (multi-disciplinary learning, blended learning, project work);
  • ■ promoting the integration and diversification of disciplines adding EU dimension into the educational programs offered by the Russian universities.

Project "European identity in the mirror of the European Union’s policy" is being implemented in the form of 11 modules (designed for 60 hours of classroom work). The content of the modules is aimed at studying the EU functioning, the features of the European identity via language, immigration, education and business policy of the EU. The materials of the Module are taught in the form of blended learning with the help of virtual learning environment Moodle.

The aim of the project is to improve the professional competences of students studying languages, who are not directly concerned with EU studies by incorporating in-depth study of aspects of the EU functioning and on the European identity issues in their training program.

The project objectives are:

  • ■ improving employment and career prospects for graduates by introducing the EU dimension in the professionally-oriented disciplines;
  • ■ enhancing motivation to further improve the knowledge on the EU with a view to active citizenship;
  • ■ the basic knowledge on aspects of EU functioning students, in the future professionals who are not directly concerned by EU studies;
  • ■ raising awareness of the importance of a common identity and the role of language in its fostering;
  • ■ increasing interest in issues related to identity;
  • ■ developing the critical thinking, civic responsibility, tolerance and respect for the values of different cultures and mutual understanding;
  • ■ developing skills of working in cross-cultural environment;
  • ■ enhancing awareness of the need to overcome the stereotypes and to develop the skills of adaptation to the multicultural space.

The target audience of the project includes four focus groups of francophone participants:

  • –3rd and 4th year students of the French philology department;
  • –3rd and 4th year students of the Faculty of International Relations;
  • –participants of the Presidential program for training managers;
  • –secondary school teachers.
