Voronezh State University and Government of the Voronezh Region have held “Days of Turkish Education in Central Russia” on 29-30 November 2017. The event was organized in the framework of Russian-Turkish business forum and aimed at building cooperation between the universities of Turkey and higher education institutions of Central Russia in the field of academic mobility and research.
The Turkish and Russian universities expressed their great interest in the event. The rectors, vice-rectors, heads of international offices of 5 biggest universities of Turkey came to Voronezh to participate in the event. These are Marmara University (Istanbul), Atatürk University (Erzurum), Dokuz Eylul University (Izmir), Kocaeli University (Izmit). Unfortunately, bad weather conditions changed plans of many participants and prevented all delegates from the Ondokuz Mayis University (Samsun) from visiting Voronezh. However, it will not affect the intentions of the Voronezh State University and Ondokuz Mayis University to conclude the cooperation agreement that the rectors were going to sign during the meeting in Voronezh. As for Russia, the event was attended by the representatives of Voronezh, Moscow, Yelets, Orel and Tambov universities. All in all, “Days of Turkish Education in Central Russia” attracted 80 participants.
The meeting was held between Mr. Alexey Gordeev, the Governor of the Voronezh Region, and members of Turkish delegation on 29 November at the Government of the Voronezh Region within the framework of the event. It was chaired by Mr. Hüseyin Lazip Diriöz, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkey to Russia. Prof. Dmitry Yendovitsky, rector of Voronezh State University, attended the meeting as well.
Mr. Alexey Gordeev emphasized that the Government of the Voronezh Region is open to cooperation with Turkey and is willing to provide comprehensive support to joint projects.
Mr. Hüseyin Lazip Diriöz, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkey to Russia stressed that cooperation between Turkey and the Voronezh Region has huge potential and proposed to establish Russia-Turkey University.
In the framework of the cooperation agreement was signed by Prof. Dmitry Yendovitsky, rector of Voronezh State University, and Prof. Ömer Çomakli, rector of Atatürk University.
The work continued with the welcome addresses of Prof. Dmitry Yendovitsky, rector of Voronezh State University, Mr. Hüseyin Lazip Diriöz and Ms Galina Ivanova, Deputy Head of the of the Department for Education, Science and Youth Policy of the Voronezh region at the conference hall of Voronezh State University.
The Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation was signed between Prof. Dmitry Yendovitsky and Mr. Mefail Deribaş, General Director of the Representative Office“Turkish Airlines” in the Russian Federation. The purpose of the Memorandum is to support educational and research cooperation between VSU and Universities of Turkey as well as promote cultural exchanges.
During the plenary session the representatives of the Universities of Turkey and Russia made presentations about their HEIs and highlighted fields of interest for cooperation.
The guests also visited VSU Book History and History Museums.
The Russian-Turkish business forum that was attended by the delegations of the Turkish Universities was officially opened on 30 November.
The welcome address to the participants – the delegation from the Turkish universities and leading businessmen of Turkey and Voronezh – was delivered by Mr. Alexey Gordeev, the Governor of the Voronezh Region, and Mr. Hüseyin Lazip Diriöz, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkey to Russia.
The forum was followed by the plenary session at VSU, the highlight of which was the ceremony of signing of Cooperation Agreements between universities, including the one on establishment of Turkish Educational and Cultural Centre at VSU.
